WELCOME WCP 2026 Satellite Meeting!

The renin angiotensin aldosterone system (RAAS) regulates cardiovascular disease (CVD) via the angiotensin II-angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AT1R) axis. In addition to standard treatments (ACEi, ARB, MRA), newer drug classes targeting the angiotensin II-AT1R axis are in clinical trial (aldosterone synthesis inhibitors and angiotensinogen RNA interference).
Additionally, it is recognised that other angiotensin peptides exert alternative, non-AT1R effects by binding to their cognate receptors, such as AT2R, Mas and MrgD, providing counter-regulatory mechanisms to limit AT1R overactivity. Moreover, the Ang IV binding site AT4R, now identified as the enzyme, insulin-regulated aminopeptidase (IRAP), is evolving as another potential target.

This 2-day meeting will be held in the beautiful Yarra Valley, a winery district approximately 1 hour from central Melbourne. It will include international and local experts who will showcase recent preclinical and clinical aspects of classical AT1R function as well as non-AT1R biology and the clinical potential of targeting alternative arms of the RAAS. The meeting format will provide opportunities for EMCR/HDR presentations.
